Lots of customers today choose to get products that are made from natural materials, have a relatively very little ecological footprint, and have couple of (if any) chemicals that are harmful to human health. Mattress buyers are no various. The existing mattress market consists of a wide range of designs that appropriate for eco-friendly customers– as well as mattresses that are erroneously marketed as being ‘Best Organic Baby Mattress’.
While we are still crafting a full post for this topic, please see a full review of our favorite below.
Founded in 2015 as an eco-friendly answer to the bed-in-a-box boom, Avocado has since become among the premier green business in the sleep space. In addition to the brand name’s flagship mattress (which we’re taking a look at today), the company also sells green pillows, mattress pad protectors, toppers, natural wood bed room furnishings, a just recently introduced structure and even an all-vegan mattress.
We won’t get into any of these other items in this review, however we will take a minute later on to size up the Avocado versus some of its fiercest competitors in the video game, namely the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses. But prior to we do any of that, we’ve got ta determine what’s cooking beneath this absolutely organic cover!
Best Organic Baby Mattress – What Is It Made of?
The Avocado Green Mattress includes a straightforward, two-layer style of latex and filched coils. While there’s not a lot to the bed’s 11″ profile, the simpleness is suggested to develop a structure that’s bouncy, taut, and ultra-supportive.
Need more information? I got you! Let’s take a look at this bed, layer by layer.
I must keep in mind that the Green Mattress is available in both Standard and Pillowtop version, which includes an additional 2″ layer of latex up top for added comfort. For this evaluation I checked the Pillowtop.
Cover– Crafted with organic cotton and hand-tufted with GOTS organic licensed wool from their co-owned wool collective. The cover is soft, breathable, and created to wick wetness far from the body.
Pillow Top– What I’m calling the pillow top layer is made up of GOLS organic accredited latex. This product has some great bounce to it, so works to keep the sleeper positioned more on top of the structure than in it. Buoyancy aside, latex is also known for its cooling properties, which will assist to manage temperature levels throughout the night.
Support– The bulk of the mattress is comprised of this tall pocketed coil system. The individually wrapped coils here double down on the bounce of the mattress, bringing an enjoyable lift to the structure. Though swiped coil system are absolutely nothing brand-new, what’s special about Avocado’s is that it’s broken down into “five strategic zones,” which, according to the brand name, help to support the shoulders, hips, and lower back in different methods. We’ll explore firmness and pressure relief in a second, but for now I’ll just state that this targeted support is extremely subtle, and most likely will not jump out to you excessive as you extend on the bed.
Ideas: With only a single layer of latex standing between you and the thick section of pocketed coils, you’re likely to experience this bed as quite bouncy and firm. Already, I can inform this mattress is going to be best for combination sleepers with environmentally friendly perceptiveness.

How Does the Avocado Mattress Feel?
After taking a look at the Avocado’s product cosmetics, it’s time to see how these products affect its general feel, starting with firmness.
Just like any feel aspect, firmness is a subjective procedure that can change a lot depending upon one’s body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, it would be a bit misleading to only report my firmness thoughts here, as my body is bound to differ from yours. To alleviate this predisposition, I invited a few of my colleagues into the studio to test this bad boy out with me.
Ball game you see below is the average of all our personal firmness scores!
The Avocado has a helpful feel and medium firmness.
Though we arrived at an average rating of 6.6, our reactions were kind of all over the place with this one, varying as they did from a soft 6 to an ultra-firm 7.5. Considering the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems this bed straddles that line in a quite engaging way.
I personally gave the bed a 6 as I discovered its cover and latex comfort layer assisted to soften up the firmness of the taken coil system. For a few of my colleagues, nevertheless, they were truly just able to experience the coils as they rapidly pushed through the gentle comfort layer. Despite firmness, we were all in agreement that the structure is very bouncy, which tells me this could be an excellent choice for combo sleepers, particularly those who turn between their backs and sides in the night.
Unwinding on this Mattress.
I should likewise keep in mind that if you love the eco-friendly profile and bounce of the mattress, but certainly need something a little bit more luxurious, you can constantly decide to have an extra Avocado pillow top included onto the bed for $400.
The Best Organic Baby Mattress is Composed of 100% natural latex and took coils, the Avocado is as eco-conscious as it is comfortable.
Testing out the Mattresses.
While I might keep describing my experience on the Avocado in words, I ‘d much rather show you what I’m speaking about than just keep informing you about it. So, to that end, I’m going to stroll you through a number of my preferred tests for examining Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer.
Video: Best Organic Baby Mattress
When I think of pressure relief, I’m primarily interested in how well (or not well) the mattress in question is able to relieve tension at delicate spots like the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
To figure all that out, I like to utilize a handy dandy pressure map. I roll this infant out, hop aboard, and let the gadget do the rest! As I move, the device tracks how my body’s interacting with the bed in real time, and creates a colored “map” to show the pressure it experiences. Locations of low pressure are demarcated in blue, and locations of high pressure remain in red.
Showing the pressure map results for the Avocado.
Back– Stretching out on my back, I felt some nice pressure relief as the leading layer of latex foam completed the space at my lumbar region. Additionally, I discovered it incredibly simple to move around and change positions, which could be terrific for those uneasy sleepers in the lot.
Side– Though I felt some initial convenience on my side, the longer I remained in this position, the more pressure I experienced. That’s not too unexpected, as rigorous side sleepers tend to put in a great deal of force on their shoulders and hips. Nevertheless, it does inform me that this bed might be a bit too firm for those who just oversleep the lateral position. But, back/side combo sleepers must be just fine!

Stomach– Turning onto my stomach, I felt okay, not excellent. I believed the filched coils would do more to lift my hips in line with my shoulders, but I was type of dissatisfied to find that they instead sank out of alignment. This triggered some tension at my lower back, so if you are a rigorous stomach sleeper taking a look at the Avocado I would opt for the basic variation.
Testing out the Avocado with Pillow Top and Movement Transfer.
For my next test, I’m going to take a look at the Avocado’s movement transfer, or the amount of motion noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. An important section for all sleepers, however especially so for those who share their beds with a partner.
To show this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pound. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it triggered: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Outcomes of the movement transfer test on the Avocado.
These are incredibly high motion transfer results, so you’re most likely to feel your bed mate’s every toss and turn. This isn’t too surprising considering how bouncy this bed is, but could be something for you to consider if you have an especially uneasy partner.

Comparison of Organic Mattresses
Now that we’ve got the Avocado pretty much well and arranged, let’s take a second to compare it to a few of its most significant competitors: the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses.
The Saatva is constructed with a timeless innerspring feel, so is a fair bit firmer than the Avocado.
Its coil-on-coil building and construction is likewise very supportive and works to promote a healthy spine alignment no matter the position.
All of this makes it a fantastic mattress for back sleepers looking for firm support and movement.
It’s also more economical than the Avocado, starting at $599.
Check out my complete Saatva mattress review and see why it arrived at my guide to the very best Mattresses for Back Pain.
The Zenhaven is an all-latex mattress made by Saatva (not a bed-in-a-box).
It’s also flippable, with two various firmnesses folks can change between by just turning over the bed.
Because it’s built completely of all-natural latex, the bed is both super bouncy and super cooling, which could be a good combo for anybody who overheats.
In regards to cost, it’s the most pricey of the 3, starting at $1,299.
Must You Buy an Avocado Mattress.

Most importantly, I enjoy that the products here are natural and environmentally friendly. This could be a genuine win for all you green sleepers out there!
Second of all, I like this mattress for back/side combo sleepers. The bounce of the springs combined with the lift of the latex produces some excellent mobility.
And finally, this is an actually resilient bed, so should last you for a great long while.
As I discussed above, the Avocado scored high marks on my movement transfer test, which informs me you’re most likely to feel your partner’s every toss and turn.
In addition, there’s no body contouring here, so if you need deep sinkage and pressure relief, you might wish to snag a softer mattress.
