Many customers today prefer to purchase items that are made from natural materials, have a reasonably very little ecological footprint, and include couple of (if any) chemicals that are dangerous to human wellness. Mattress consumers are no various. The current mattress market includes a vast array of designs that are suitable for eco-friendly buyers– as well as mattresses that are incorrectly promoted as being ‘Best Organic Bassinet Mattress Pad’.
While we are still developing a full post for this topic, please see a full review of our favorite below.
Founded in 2015 as an environmentally friendly answer to the bed-in-a-box boom, Avocado has given that turned into one of the premier green business in the sleep space. In addition to the brand name’s flagship mattress (which we’re taking a look at today), the company also sells green pillows, mattress pad protectors, toppers, natural wood bedroom furniture, a just recently introduced structure and even an all-vegan mattress.
We won’t enter into any of these other products in this review, but we will take a moment in the future to measure the Avocado versus a few of its fiercest competitors in the video game, specifically the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses. However prior to we do any of that, we’ve got ta figure out what’s cooking beneath this absolutely organic cover!
Best Organic Bassinet Mattress Pad – What Is It Made of?
The Avocado Green Mattress features a simple, two-layer design of latex and filched coils. While there’s not a lot to the bed’s 11″ profile, the simplicity is implied to develop a structure that’s bouncy, taut, and ultra-supportive.
Need more details? I got you! Let’s take a look at this bed, layer by layer.
I need to note that the Green Mattress comes in both Standard and Pillowtop variation, which includes an extra 2″ layer of latex up top for included comfort. For this review I checked the Pillowtop.
Cover– Crafted with organic cotton and hand-tufted with GOTS organic accredited wool from their co-owned wool collective. The cover is soft, breathable, and developed to wick moisture away from the body.
Pillow Top– What I’m calling the pillow leading layer is comprised of GOLS organic licensed latex. This material has some fantastic bounce to it, so works to keep the sleeper positioned more on top of the structure than in it. Buoyancy aside, latex is also known for its cooling homes, which will help to control temperature levels throughout the night.
Support– The bulk of the mattress is comprised of this tall pocketed coil system. The separately covered coils here double down on the bounce of the mattress, bringing a pleasant lift to the structure. Though stolen coil system are absolutely nothing brand-new, what’s special about Avocado’s is that it’s broken down into “five tactical zones,” which, according to the brand, aid to support the shoulders, hips, and lower back in different ways. We’ll check out firmness and pressure relief in a second, but for now I’ll just state that this targeted assistance is very subtle, and likely won’t leap out to you too much as you extend on the bed.
Thoughts: With just a single layer of latex standing in between you and the thick area of pocketed coils, you’re likely to experience this bed as quite bouncy and company. Currently, I can inform this mattress is going to be best for combo sleepers with eco-friendly sensibilities.
Revealing the materials utilized in the layers of the Avocado
How Does the Avocado Mattress Feel?
After analyzing the Avocado’s product cosmetics, it’s time to see how these materials affect its total feel, starting with firmness.
As with any feel aspect, firmness is a subjective measure that can alter a lot depending on one’s body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, it would be a bit deceptive to only report my firmness ideas here, as my body is bound to vary from yours. To mitigate this bias, I welcomed a few of my colleagues into the studio to check this bad kid out with me.
Ball game you see below is the average of all our personal firmness scores!
The Avocado has an encouraging feel and medium firmness.
Though we arrived on a typical ranking of 6.6, our responses were sort of all over the place with this one, varying as they did from a soft 6 to an ultra-firm 7.5. Thinking about the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems this bed straddles that line in a pretty compelling way.
I personally gave the bed a 6 as I found its cover and latex convenience layer assisted to soften up the firmness of the pocketed coil system. For some of my colleagues, however, they were actually just able to experience the coils as they rapidly pushed through the mild comfort layer. Regardless of firmness, we were all in agreement that the structure is very bouncy, which informs me this could be a great pick for combination sleepers, particularly those who turn between their backs and sides in the night.

I ought to also keep in mind that if you love the eco-friendly profile and bounce of the mattress, but definitely need something a little bit more plush, you can constantly choose to have an additional Avocado pillow top included onto the bed for $400.

Evaluating out the Mattresses.
While I could keep describing my experience on the Avocado in words, I ‘d much rather reveal you what I’m discussing than just keep telling you about it. So, to that end, I’m going to stroll you through a couple of my favorite tests for assessing Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer.
When I consider pressure relief, I’m mainly interested in how well (or not well) the mattress in question has the ability to reduce stress at sensitive areas like the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
To figure all that out, I like to use a handy dandy pressure map. I roll this baby out, hop aboard, and let the gizmo do the rest! As I walk around, the gadget tracks how my body’s engaging with the bed in real time, and develops a colored “map” to show the pressure it experiences. Locations of low pressure are demarcated in blue, and locations of high pressure are in red.
Showing the pressure map results for the Avocado.
Back– Stretching out on my back, I felt some good pressure relief as the leading layer of latex foam filled in the area at my lumbar region. In addition, I found it incredibly easy to walk around and change positions, which could be fantastic for those uneasy sleepers in the lot.
Side– Though I felt some preliminary convenience on my side, the longer I remained in this position, the more pressure I experienced. That’s not too surprising, as strict side sleepers tend to put in a lot of force on their shoulders and hips. However, it does inform me that this bed might be a bit too firm for those who only oversleep the lateral position. However, back/side combo sleepers should be just great!

Stomach– Turning onto my stomach, I felt okay, not fantastic. I believed the stolen coils would do more to lift my hips in line with my shoulders, however I was type of dissatisfied to discover that they rather sank out of alignment. This triggered some tension at my lower back, so if you are a rigorous stomach sleeper looking at the Avocado I would choose the standard version.
Testing out the Avocado with Pillow Top and Movement Transfer.
For my next test, I’m going to examine the Avocado’s movement transfer, or the amount of motion detectable from one side of the bed to the other. An important section for all sleepers, however specifically so for those who share their beds with a partner.
To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and determined the disruption it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disruption.

These are extremely high motion transfer results, so you’re likely to feel your bed mate’s every toss and turn. This isn’t too surprising thinking about how bouncy this bed is, however could be something for you to think about if you have a particularly uneasy partner.

Differentiation of Organic Mattresses
Now that we’ve got the Avocado basically well and sorted, let’s take a second to compare it to some of its most significant competitors: the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses.
The Saatva is built with a timeless innerspring feel, so is a fair bit firmer than the Avocado.
Its coil-on-coil building and construction is also very supportive and works to promote a healthy spine positioning no matter the position.
All of this makes it a fantastic mattress for back sleepers in search of firm support and mobility.
It’s likewise more economical than the Avocado, beginning at $599.
Check out my complete Saatva mattress evaluation and see why it landed on my guide to the very best Mattresses for Back Pain.
The Zenhaven is an all-latex mattress made by Saatva (not a bed-in-a-box).
It’s likewise flippable, with two different firmnesses folks can switch in between by simply turning over the bed.
Given that it’s built entirely of natural latex, the bed is both very bouncy and very cooling, which could be a nice combo for anyone who gets too hot.
In regards to cost, it’s the most costly of the three, beginning at $1,299.
