While we are still writing a full article for this topic, please see a full rundown of our favorite below.
Founded in 2015 as an eco-friendly answer to the bed-in-a-box boom, Avocado has actually considering that turned into among the premier green companies in the sleep space. In addition to the brand’s flagship mattress (which we’re taking a look at today), the business also offers green pillows, mattress pad protectors, toppers, natural wood bed room furnishings, a just recently introduced foundation and even an all-vegan mattress.
We won’t get into any of these other items in this review, however we will take a minute later on to size up the Avocado versus some of its fiercest competitors in the video game, specifically the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses. However prior to we do any of that, we’ve got ta figure out what’s cooking beneath this absolutely organic cover!
Best Organic Full Mattress – What Is It Made of?
The Avocado Green Mattress features a simple, two-layer design of latex and swiped coils. While there’s not a lot to the bed’s 11″ profile, the simplicity is implied to produce a structure that’s bouncy, taut, and ultra-supportive.
Need more details? I got you! Let’s have a look at this bed, layer by layer.
I need to note that the Green Mattress can be found in both Standard and Pillowtop version, that includes an extra 2″ layer of latex up top for included comfort. For this evaluation I checked the Pillowtop.
Cover– Crafted with organic cotton and hand-tufted with GOTS organic accredited wool from their co-owned wool cumulative. The cover is soft, breathable, and created to wick moisture away from the body.
Pillow Top– What I’m calling the pillow leading layer is made up of GOLS organic accredited latex. This material has some great bounce to it, so works to keep the sleeper placed more on top of the structure than in it. Buoyancy aside, latex is also known for its cooling properties, which will assist to control temperatures throughout the night.
Support– The bulk of the mattress is comprised of this tall pocketed coil system. The separately wrapped coils here double down on the bounce of the mattress, bringing a pleasant lift to the structure. Though stolen coil system are absolutely nothing brand-new, what’s special about Avocado’s is that it’s broken down into “five strategic zones,” which, according to the brand name, assistance to support the shoulders, hips, and lower back in different ways. We’ll check out firmness and pressure relief in a second, but for now I’ll simply state that this targeted assistance is very subtle, and likely will not jump out to you too much as you extend on the bed.
Ideas: With just a single layer of latex standing between you and the thick section of pocketed coils, you’re most likely to experience this bed as rather bouncy and firm. Currently, I can tell this mattress is going to be best for combo sleepers with eco-friendly perceptiveness.

How Does the Avocado Mattress Feel?
After analyzing the Avocado’s material make-up, it’s time to see how these products affect its general feel, starting with firmness.
Similar to any feel aspect, firmness is a subjective procedure that can change a lot depending upon one’s body size, shape, and weight. For that reason, it would be a bit deceptive to just report my firmness ideas here, as my body is bound to vary from yours. To reduce this bias, I welcomed a few of my colleagues into the studio to test this bad kid out with me.
Ball game you see listed below is the average of all our individual firmness scores!
The Avocado has an encouraging feel and medium firmness.
Though we arrived on a typical ranking of 6.6, our reactions were sort of all over the place with this one, varying as they did from a soft 6 to an ultra-firm 7.5. Thinking about the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it appears this bed straddles that line in a quite compelling way.
I personally gave the bed a 6 as I discovered its cover and latex comfort layer assisted to soften up the firmness of the stolen coil system. For some of my colleagues, however, they were truly just able to experience the coils as they rapidly pushed through the mild convenience layer. Despite firmness, we were all in contract that the structure is supremely bouncy, which tells me this could be an excellent pick for combo sleepers, especially those who flip in between their backs and sides in the night.

I must also keep in mind that if you love the environment-friendly profile and bounce of the mattress, but certainly need something a little more plush, you can constantly opt to have an additional Avocado pillow top added onto the bed for $400.

Evaluating out the Mattresses.
While I could keep describing my experience on the Avocado in words, I ‘d much rather show you what I’m speaking about than simply keep telling you about it. So, to that end, I’m going to stroll you through a number of my preferred tests for assessing Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer.

When I consider pressure relief, I’m mainly concerned with how well (or not well) the mattress in question is able to ease tension at delicate areas like the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
To figure all that out, I like to use a convenient dandy pressure map. I roll this child out, hop aboard, and let the device do the rest! As I walk around, the device tracks how my body’s engaging with the bed in real time, and creates a colored “map” to demonstrate the pressure it experiences. Locations of low pressure are demarcated in blue, and areas of high pressure are in red.

Back– Stretching out on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the leading layer of latex foam completed the space at my lumbar region. In addition, I found it incredibly simple to move and change positions, which could be terrific for those uneasy sleepers in the bunch.
Side– Though I felt some initial comfort on my side, the longer I stayed in this position, the more pressure I experienced. That’s not too surprising, as stringent side sleepers tend to exert a lot of force on their shoulders and hips. However, it does inform me that this bed might be a bit too firm for those who only sleep in the lateral position. But, back/side combo sleepers should be simply great!

Stomach– Turning onto my stomach, I felt okay, not excellent. I thought the taken coils would do more to lift my hips in line with my shoulders, but I was sort of disappointed to find that they rather sank out of positioning. This triggered some tension at my lower back, so if you are a stringent stomach sleeper looking at the Avocado I would choose the standard variation.
Checking out the Avocado with Pillow Top and Motion Transfer.
For my next test, I’m going to analyze the Avocado’s motion transfer, or the quantity of movement noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. A crucial area for all sleepers, but particularly so for those who share their beds with a partner.
To show this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 pound. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and determined the disruption it triggered: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disruption.

These are exceptionally high movement transfer results, so you’re most likely to feel your bed mate’s every toss and turn. This isn’t too surprising considering how bouncy this bed is, but could be something for you to consider if you have a particularly restless partner.

The Saatva is built with a timeless innerspring feel, so is a fair bit firmer than the Avocado.
Its coil-on-coil building is likewise very encouraging and works to promote a healthy spine positioning no matter the position.
All of this makes it a fantastic mattress for back sleepers in search of firm assistance and movement.
It’s likewise more economical than the Avocado, beginning at $599.

The Zenhaven is an all-latex mattress made by Saatva (not a bed-in-a-box).
It’s also flippable, with 2 various firmnesses folks can change between by simply turning over the bed.
Given that it’s constructed completely of natural latex, the bed is both super bouncy and extremely cooling, which could be a nice combination for anybody who gets too hot.
In terms of expense, it’s the most expensive of the 3, starting at $1,299.
