Lots of consumers today favor to buy items that are made from all-natural materials, have a fairly marginal ecological footprint, as well as include couple of (if any kind of) chemicals that are hazardous to human wellness. Mattress shoppers are no various. The current mattress market includes a vast array of models that appropriate for environment-friendly customers– along with mattresses that are erroneously advertised as being ‘Best Organic Mattress Side Sleeper’.
While we are still developing a full blurb for this topic, please see a full breakdown of our favorite below.
Founded in 2015 as an eco-friendly answer to the bed-in-a-box boom, Avocado has actually since become one of the premier green business in the sleep space. In addition to the brand name’s flagship mattress (which we’re having a look at today), the company also offers green pillows, mattress pad protectors, toppers, natural wood bed room furnishings, a recently released foundation and even an all-vegan mattress.
We will not enter any of these other products in this review, but we will take a moment later on to size up the Avocado against a few of its fiercest competitors in the game, particularly the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses. However before we do any of that, we’ve got ta determine what’s cooking beneath this completely organic cover!
Best Organic Mattress Side Sleeper – What Is It Made of?
The Avocado Green Mattress includes a straightforward, two-layer style of latex and filched coils. While there’s not a lot to the bed’s 11″ profile, the simplicity is suggested to produce a structure that’s bouncy, taut, and ultra-supportive.
Need more details? I got you! Let’s take a look at this bed, layer by layer.
I should note that the Green Mattress can be found in both Standard and Pillowtop version, that includes an extra 2″ layer of latex up top for included comfort. For this evaluation I checked the Pillowtop.
Cover– Crafted with organic cotton and hand-tufted with GOTS organic accredited wool from their co-owned wool collective. The cover is soft, breathable, and created to wick wetness far from the body.
Pillow Top– What I’m calling the pillow top layer is comprised of GOLS organic accredited latex. This material has some wonderful bounce to it, so works to keep the sleeper placed more on top of the structure than in it. Buoyancy aside, latex is also known for its cooling properties, which will assist to manage temperatures throughout the night.
Support– The bulk of the mattress is consisted of this high pocketed coil system. The individually wrapped coils here double down on the bounce of the mattress, bringing an enjoyable lift to the structure. Though stolen coil system are nothing brand-new, what’s unique about Avocado’s is that it’s broken down into “5 tactical zones,” which, according to the brand name, help to support the shoulders, hips, and lower back in different methods. We’ll check out firmness and pressure relief in a second, but for now I’ll simply say that this targeted support is very subtle, and most likely will not jump out to you too much as you stretch out on the bed.
Thoughts: With just a single layer of latex standing between you and the thick section of pocketed coils, you’re likely to experience this bed as quite bouncy and company. Currently, I can inform this mattress is going to be best for combination sleepers with environmentally friendly sensibilities.

How Does the Avocado Mattress Feel?
After analyzing the Avocado’s material makeup, it’s time to see how these products affect its general feel, beginning with firmness.
Similar to any feel aspect, firmness is a subjective step that can change a lot depending on one’s body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, it would be a bit deceptive to only report my firmness ideas here, as my body is bound to differ from yours. To mitigate this predisposition, I welcomed a few of my colleagues into the studio to check this bad boy out with me.
The score you see listed below is the average of all our personal firmness scores!
The Avocado has an encouraging feel and medium firmness.
Though we arrived at an average score of 6.6, our responses were type of all over the place with this one, varying as they did from a soft 6 to an ultra-firm 7.5. Considering the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it appears this bed straddles that line in a quite compelling way.
I personally offered the bed a 6 as I found its cover and latex comfort layer helped to soften up the firmness of the filched coil system. For some of my coworkers, however, they were really just able to experience the coils as they rapidly pushed through the mild convenience layer. No matter firmness, we were all in arrangement that the structure is very bouncy, which informs me this could be a great pick for combo sleepers, especially those who flip in between their backs and sides in the night.

I should also note that if you enjoy the environment-friendly profile and bounce of the mattress, but definitely need something a little bit more plush, you can always decide to have an additional Avocado pillow top included onto the bed for $400.

Checking out the Mattresses.
While I might keep explaining my experience on the Avocado in words, I ‘d much rather show you what I’m talking about than simply keep informing you about it. So, to that end, I’m going to walk you through a couple of my favorite tests for evaluating Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer.
When I think of pressure relief, I’m mostly concerned with how well (or not well) the mattress in question has the ability to alleviate tension at delicate spots like the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
To figure all that out, I like to utilize a convenient dandy pressure map. I roll this child out, hop aboard, and let the gadget do the rest! As I walk around, the gadget tracks how my body’s connecting with the bed in real time, and produces a colored “map” to show the pressure it experiences. Locations of low pressure are demarcated in blue, and areas of high pressure remain in red.

Back– Stretching out on my back, I felt some good pressure relief as the leading layer of latex foam filled in the space at my lumbar region. In addition, I found it incredibly simple to walk around and change positions, which could be great for those uneasy sleepers in the lot.
Side– Though I felt some preliminary convenience on my side, the longer I remained in this position, the more pressure I experienced. That’s not too unexpected, as rigorous side sleepers tend to exert a great deal of force on their shoulders and hips. Nevertheless, it does inform me that this bed might be a bit too firm for those who only oversleep the lateral position. But, back/side combo sleepers should be simply fine!

Stomach– Turning onto my stomach, I felt fine, not excellent. I thought the stolen coils would do more to lift my hips in line with my shoulders, but I was sort of dissatisfied to discover that they rather sank out of alignment. This caused some tension at my lower back, so if you are a rigorous stomach sleeper taking a look at the Avocado I would opt for the standard variation.
Testing out the Avocado with Pillow Top and Movement Transfer.
For my next test, I’m going to analyze the Avocado’s motion transfer, or the amount of motion detectable from one side of the bed to the other. An important section for all sleepers, but specifically so for those who share their beds with a partner.
To highlight this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it triggered: the bigger the lines, the larger the disruption.

These are extremely high motion transfer results, so you’re likely to feel your bed mate’s every toss and turn. This isn’t too surprising considering how bouncy this bed is, but could be something for you to consider if you have an especially uneasy partner.
