Mattress customers are no various. The existing mattress market includes a variety of designs that are suitable for environment-friendly purchasers– along with mattresses that are erroneously advertised as being ‘Best Organic Mattresses Reviews’.
While we are still developing a full article for this topic, please see a full rundown of our favorite below.
Founded in 2015 as an environment-friendly answer to the bed-in-a-box boom, Avocado has given that grown into one of the premier green business in the sleep space. In addition to the brand’s flagship mattress (which we’re taking a look at today), the company likewise offers green pillows, mattress pad protectors, toppers, natural wood bedroom furniture, a recently launched foundation and even an all-vegan mattress.
We will not enter any of these other items in this evaluation, but we will take a minute later on to measure the Avocado versus a few of its fiercest competitors in the video game, particularly the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses. However before we do any of that, we’ve got ta determine what’s cooking below this absolutely organic cover!
Best Organic Mattresses Reviews – What Is It Made of?
The Avocado Green Mattress features a simple, two-layer design of latex and filched coils. While there’s not a lot to the bed’s 11″ profile, the simpleness is meant to develop a structure that’s bouncy, taut, and ultra-supportive.
Need more details? I got you! Let’s take a look at this bed, layer by layer.
I must note that the Green Mattress comes in both Standard and Pillowtop version, that includes an extra 2″ layer of latex up top for included convenience. For this review I evaluated the Pillowtop.
Cover– Crafted with organic cotton and hand-tufted with GOTS organic accredited wool from their co-owned wool collective. The cover is soft, breathable, and created to wick wetness away from the body.
Pillow Top– What I’m calling the pillow leading layer is comprised of GOLS organic licensed latex. This material has some great bounce to it, so works to keep the sleeper positioned more on top of the structure than in it. Buoyancy aside, latex is also understood for its cooling properties, which will help to regulate temperatures throughout the night.
Support– The bulk of the mattress is comprised of this tall pocketed coil system. The individually wrapped coils here double down on the bounce of the mattress, bringing an enjoyable lift to the structure. Though taken coil system are absolutely nothing brand-new, what’s distinct about Avocado’s is that it’s broken down into “five tactical zones,” which, according to the brand, help to support the shoulders, hips, and lower back in various ways. We’ll check out firmness and pressure relief in a second, but for now I’ll simply say that this targeted assistance is really subtle, and likely won’t leap out to you excessive as you stretch out on the bed.
Ideas: With just a single layer of latex standing between you and the thick section of pocketed coils, you’re likely to experience this bed as rather bouncy and firm. Already, I can tell this mattress is going to be best for combination sleepers with environmentally friendly sensibilities.

How Does the Avocado Mattress Feel?
After taking a look at the Avocado’s material cosmetics, it’s time to see how these products affect its total feel, beginning with firmness.
As with any feel factor, firmness is a subjective measure that can change a lot depending upon one’s body size, shape, and weight. For that reason, it would be a bit misleading to just report my firmness ideas here, as my body is bound to vary from yours. To reduce this predisposition, I welcomed a few of my coworkers into the studio to check this bad kid out with me.
The score you see below is the average of all our individual firmness rankings!
The Avocado has a helpful feel and medium firmness.
Though we landed on an average ranking of 6.6, our responses were type of all over the place with this one, ranging as they did from a soft 6 to an ultra-firm 7.5. Considering the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems this bed straddles that line in a quite compelling method.
I personally offered the bed a 6 as I found its cover and latex convenience layer helped to soften up the firmness of the swiped coil system. For a few of my coworkers, however, they were actually only able to experience the coils as they quickly pushed through the mild comfort layer. Regardless of firmness, we were all in agreement that the structure is supremely bouncy, which tells me this could be a good pick for combination sleepers, especially those who flip in between their backs and sides in the night.

I need to also keep in mind that if you enjoy the environmentally friendly profile and bounce of the mattress, however certainly need something a little bit more plush, you can always opt to have an additional Avocado pillow top added onto the bed for $400.

Evaluating out the Mattresses.
While I might keep explaining my experience on the Avocado in words, I ‘d much rather reveal you what I’m speaking about than simply keep telling you about it. So, to that end, I’m going to walk you through a couple of my preferred tests for assessing Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer.
When I think about pressure relief, I’m mainly concerned with how well (or not well) the mattress in question has the ability to ease stress at sensitive areas like the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
To figure all that out, I like to use a convenient dandy pressure map. I roll this child out, hop aboard, and let the device do the rest! As I move, the gadget tracks how my body’s interacting with the bed in real time, and creates a colored “map” to show the pressure it experiences. Areas of low pressure are demarcated in blue, and areas of high pressure are in red.

Back– Stretching out on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the leading layer of latex foam filled out the space at my lumbar region. Furthermore, I discovered it incredibly easy to move around and change positions, which could be great for those restless sleepers in the lot.
Side– Though I felt some preliminary comfort on my side, the longer I stayed in this position, the more pressure I experienced. That’s not too unexpected, as rigorous side sleepers tend to put in a great deal of force on their shoulders and hips. However, it does inform me that this bed might be a bit too firm for those who just oversleep the lateral position. However, back/side combo sleepers must be simply fine!

Stomach– Turning onto my stomach, I felt fine, not fantastic. I believed the pocketed coils would do more to raise my hips in line with my shoulders, but I was sort of dissatisfied to find that they rather sank out of alignment. This triggered some stress at my lower back, so if you are a strict stomach sleeper taking a look at the Avocado I would opt for the standard variation.
Evaluating out the Avocado with Pillow Top and Motion Transfer.
For my next test, I’m going to examine the Avocado’s motion transfer, or the amount of motion noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. A crucial section for all sleepers, however especially so for those who share their beds with a partner.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and determined the disturbance it triggered: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

These are extremely high movement transfer results, so you’re likely to feel your bed mate’s every toss and turn. This isn’t too unexpected considering how bouncy this bed is, but could be something for you to consider if you have an especially uneasy partner.
