Numerous customers today choose to get items that are made from all-natural materials, have a relatively marginal environmental impact, and also include few (if any type of) chemicals that are hazardous to human health. Mattress shoppers are no various. The current mattress market includes a wide variety of versions that appropriate for green purchasers– as well as mattresses that are wrongly promoted as being ‘Best Organic Plush Mattress’.
While we are still writing a full blurb for this topic, please see a full breakdown of our favorite below.
Founded in 2015 as an eco-friendly answer to the bed-in-a-box boom, Avocado has actually since become one of the premier green business in the sleep area. In addition to the brand’s flagship mattress (which we’re taking a look at today), the business likewise sells green pillows, mattress pad protectors, toppers, natural wood bed room furnishings, a recently released structure and even an all-vegan mattress.
We will not get into any of these other items in this review, however we will take a moment later to measure the Avocado against some of its fiercest competition in the video game, namely the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses. However before we do any of that, we’ve got ta figure out what’s cooking below this totally organic cover!
Best Organic Plush Mattress – What Is It Made of?
The Avocado Green Mattress includes an uncomplicated, two-layer design of latex and took coils. While there’s not a lot to the bed’s 11″ profile, the simplicity is indicated to produce a structure that’s bouncy, tight, and ultra-supportive.
Need more information? I got you! Let’s take a look at this bed, layer by layer.
I should note that the Green Mattress is available in both Standard and Pillowtop variation, that includes an additional 2″ layer of latex up top for included comfort. For this review I tested the Pillowtop.
Cover– Crafted with organic cotton and hand-tufted with GOTS organic certified wool from their co-owned wool collective. The cover is soft, breathable, and developed to wick wetness away from the body.
Pillow Top– What I’m calling the pillow top layer is made up of GOLS organic certified latex. This product has some wonderful bounce to it, so works to keep the sleeper positioned more on top of the structure than in it. Buoyancy aside, latex is also known for its cooling homes, which will assist to manage temperatures throughout the night.
Assistance– The bulk of the mattress is comprised of this tall pocketed coil system. The separately wrapped coils here double down on the bounce of the mattress, bringing a pleasant lift to the structure. Though taken coil system are nothing new, what’s special about Avocado’s is that it’s broken down into “five strategic zones,” which, according to the brand, assistance to support the shoulders, hips, and lower back in various ways. We’ll check out firmness and pressure relief in a second, but for now I’ll simply state that this targeted assistance is very subtle, and likely will not jump out to you too much as you extend on the bed.
Thoughts: With just a single layer of latex standing in between you and the thick section of pocketed coils, you’re most likely to experience this bed as rather bouncy and company. Currently, I can inform this mattress is going to be best for combo sleepers with environment-friendly perceptiveness.

How Does the Avocado Mattress Feel?
After taking a look at the Avocado’s material make-up, it’s time to see how these products affect its general feel, starting with firmness.
Similar to any feel element, firmness is a subjective step that can change a lot depending upon one’s body size, shape, and weight. For that reason, it would be a bit misleading to just report my firmness thoughts here, as my body is bound to vary from yours. To mitigate this predisposition, I invited a few of my coworkers into the studio to test this bad young boy out with me.
Ball game you see below is the average of all our individual firmness rankings!
The Avocado has an encouraging feel and medium firmness.
Though we landed on a typical rating of 6.6, our reactions were kind of all over the place with this one, ranging as they did from a soft 6 to an ultra-firm 7.5. Thinking about the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it appears this bed straddles that line in a pretty engaging method.
I personally gave the bed a 6 as I found its cover and latex comfort layer assisted to soften up the firmness of the swiped coil system. For a few of my coworkers, however, they were really only able to experience the coils as they quickly pressed through the mild convenience layer. No matter firmness, we were all in contract that the structure is very bouncy, which tells me this could be an excellent choice for combo sleepers, particularly those who turn in between their backs and sides in the night.
Unwinding on this Mattress.
I need to likewise note that if you enjoy the environmentally friendly profile and bounce of the mattress, but absolutely need something a little more luxurious, you can always decide to have an additional Avocado pillow top added onto the bed for $400.
The Best Organic Plush Mattress is Made up of 100% natural latex and stole coils, the Avocado is as eco-conscious as it is comfortable.
Testing out the Mattresses.
While I could keep describing my experience on the Avocado in words, I ‘d much rather reveal you what I’m discussing than just keep informing you about it. So, to that end, I’m going to stroll you through a number of my favorite tests for assessing Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer.
Video: Best Organic Plush Mattress
When I consider pressure relief, I’m mainly interested in how well (or not well) the mattress in question is able to alleviate stress at sensitive areas like the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
To figure all that out, I like to use an useful dandy pressure map. I roll this child out, hop aboard, and let the gizmo do the rest! As I walk around, the gadget tracks how my body’s connecting with the bed in real time, and develops a colored “map” to demonstrate the pressure it experiences. Areas of low pressure are demarcated in blue, and areas of high pressure are in red.
Revealing the pressure map results for the Avocado.
Back– Stretching out on my back, I felt some good pressure relief as the leading layer of latex foam completed the space at my lumbar region. Additionally, I found it exceptionally easy to move and change positions, which could be excellent for those agitated sleepers in the bunch.
Side– Though I felt some preliminary comfort on my side, the longer I remained in this position, the more pressure I experienced. That’s not too surprising, as strict side sleepers tend to apply a lot of force on their shoulders and hips. However, it does inform me that this bed might be a bit too firm for those who just oversleep the lateral position. But, back/side combo sleepers should be simply great!

Stomach– Turning onto my stomach, I felt all right, not excellent. I thought the swiped coils would do more to raise my hips in line with my shoulders, but I was sort of disappointed to discover that they rather sank out of positioning. This triggered some tension at my lower back, so if you are a strict stomach sleeper looking at the Avocado I would choose the standard variation.
Checking out the Avocado with Pillow Top and Movement Transfer.
For my next test, I’m going to take a look at the Avocado’s motion transfer, or the amount of motion detectable from one side of the bed to the other. An important area for all sleepers, but specifically so for those who share their beds with a partner.
To highlight this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it triggered: the bigger the lines, the larger the disruption.

Results of the motion transfer test on the Avocado.
These are exceptionally high motion transfer results, so you’re most likely to feel your bed mate’s every toss and turn. This isn’t too unexpected thinking about how bouncy this bed is, however could be something for you to consider if you have an especially uneasy partner.

Comparison of Organic Mattresses
Now that we’ve got the Avocado practically well and sorted, let’s take a 2nd to compare it to some of its most significant competitors: the Saatva and Zenhaven mattresses.
The Saatva is developed with a timeless innerspring feel, so is a fair bit firmer than the Avocado.
Its coil-on-coil building and construction is also supremely encouraging and works to promote a healthy spine positioning no matter the position.
All of this makes it a terrific mattress for back sleepers in search of firm support and movement.
It’s also more economical than the Avocado, beginning at $599.
Take a look at my complete Saatva mattress evaluation and see why it landed on my guide to the very best Mattresses for Back Pain.
The Zenhaven is an all-latex mattress made by Saatva (not a bed-in-a-box).
It’s also flippable, with 2 various firmnesses folks can change between by just turning over the bed.
Considering that it’s constructed completely of natural latex, the bed is both extremely bouncy and very cooling, which could be a great combo for anybody who gets too hot.
In terms of cost, it’s the most pricey of the three, beginning at $1,299.

Second of all, I like this mattress for back/side combo sleepers. The bounce of the springs paired with the lift of the latex makes for some outstanding mobility.
And lastly, this is an actually long lasting bed, so need to last you for a good long while.
As I discussed above, the Avocado scored high marks on my motion transfer test, which tells me you’re likely to feel your partner’s every toss and turn.
